Rapid Entry: CBT

Posted by Jackie Cabasso of Western States Legal Foundation (WSLF) to the Globenet list @ yahoo groups, are details on a speech given by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at the Hiroshima International Conference Center on August 6.

Following the ceremony in the Peace Park,  the Secretary referred to his five-point plan on nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation. He called for “rapid entry into force of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty” by 2012. Ms. Cabasso writes of the talk:

It is longer and more specific than the ceremony speech. The audience consisted mostly of foreign diplomats (the U.S.) did not attend, and Hiroshima school children. Following the lecture, Hirohsima Mayor Akiba and City Council President Fujita (himself a hibakusha) conferred upon Ban honorary Hiroshima citizenship. The Ban presented Mayor Akiba with 1000 paper cranes, in the UN colors, blue and white, folded by UN staff.
